The Boys and Girls Clubs of Winnipeg‘s Youth in Philanthropy committee consists of eight multicultural youth from various areas across the city. Unlike most high school YiP programs, this allows us insight into what our community needs, for all the different areas and ethnicities our city holds.

Throughout the year, our focus has been primarily on both youth and our homeless community. Living in Winnipeg, we are accustomed to very harsh climates and long winters. For some, this mixture can be deadly.

Our group wanted to initiate an act of love that would hopefully bring joy and hope to some of our city’s most vulnerable and resilient citizens. We decided to visit stores to ask for donations such as soap, deodorant, toothbrushes and toothpaste, and other small personal care items that can make one’s day to day life a little bit easier, healthier, and happier.

We put together 80 care packages for men of the Men’s Resource Centre of Manitoba and women from The Laurel Centre. Our group strongly believes that change starts with us.

Along with our “Gifts of Love” project, we’ve had the pleasure of visiting multiple sites around Winnipeg that help the less fortunate in our city. Our group has made it our personal mission to find organizations and causes that support our city’s troubled youth.

Though Winnipeg is far from perfect, the Youth in Philanthropy from the Boys and Girls Clubs are, and always will be initiating change for the greater good of our fellow citizens and for the community we live in.
