With the Holiday season upon us, the United Way of Winnipeg is asking for your support.
December 1 is Giving Tuesday, a day geared towards giving back following the hype of Black Friday and Cyber Monday.
The Boys and Girls Club of Winnipeg is just one of many agencies who the United Way supports. Club President Ron Brown says donations from the non-profit organization allows them to focus more on the kids.
“United Way provides a significant part of our funding. If it wasn’t there, about half of our clubs would have to close. That’s something we wouldn’t want to contemplate. I’d rather be working with kids than fundraising.”
Campaign chair Kelvin Shepherd is asking Winnipeggers to dig deep and realize what a dollar could do for the community.
“Anything that people can do is going to come back and have a big impact. It’s almost certain that somebody you know is the person you’re helping. It may be a family member, it might be a neighbour, might be a co-worker. But it’s all about all of us pulling together and helping Winnipeg be a better place.”
