A national program that provides meals to youth in need is launching in Winnipeg next month by partnering with several local restaurants.
Mealshare is a non-profit that aims to end youth hunger by supporting charities that use food as a catalyst for change.
Each time a diner orders a particular menu item with the Mealshare logo next to it, the restaurant will make a financial contribution to the program. Funds are then passed along to charity partners to provide a meal for a youth.
Half of the meals Mealshare provides stay local and will be provided through The Boys and Girls Clubs of Winnipeg and the other half will be distributed internationally through Save the Children Canada.
Participating Winnipeg restaurants include Pizzeria Gusto, The Merchant Kitchen, Confusion Corner Bar & Grill, Fionn’s Grant Park and Regent, Little Goat, Teo’s, Mona Lisa Restaurant Italiano, and all Stella’s locations.
The program was launched in 2013 by co-founders and cousins, Andrew Hall and Jeremy Bryant. Since then, Mealshare has provided nearly two million meals through operations in Vancouver, Victoria, Calgary, Edmonton, Toronto, Ottawa, and Montreal.
The Winnipeg program officially launches June 19 during an evening event at Pizzeria Gusto.
