Last Sunday, through a generous donation by 24-7 Intouch, 100 youth and BGC Winnipeg members were welcomed into the ICE Cave to watch the Winnipeg ICE take on the Medicine Hat Tigers. BGC Winnipeg youth volunteers were there to interact with fans and to share information on BGC Winnipeg’s programs where children and youth can experience new opportunities, overcome barriers, build positive relationships and develop confidence and skills for life.
Two youth members, Robo and Jeremiah, from BGC Winnipeg participated in the ceremonial puck drop alongside Terri Miller, Vice President of Global Operations of Experience for 24-7 Intouch and two adorable adoptable puppies from Manitoba Underdogs Rescue. During the first intermission, Robo and Ron Brown, President and CEO of BGC Winnipeg, joined the Winnipeg ICE broadcast team on CFRW 1290 and shared all the amazing work BGC Winnipeg does for the families they serve. Robo was the star of the radio interview and blew the team away with his bubbly on-air personality.
While attending the Winnipeg ICE Game, BCG Winnipeg youth enjoyed the full game experience, which included having their favorite balloon animals created, a temporary tattoo station and the always popular bouncy castle! When not watching the game, the kids could be seen crowded around the coloring station where they selected their favorite ICE player to showcase their creative talents.
Joining BGC Winnipeg at the game was Manitoba Underdogs Rescue and of course, puppies! Manitoba Underdogs Rescue was in attendance to showcase their work in the community and dogs available for adoption. Many of the BGC Winnipeg youth were frequent visitors to the booth during the game to give the dogs lots of pets and snuggles.
With a 5-2 ICE lead at the start of the second period, the crowd began their infamous, “We Want Pancakes” chant. The ICE answered the call and finished the game with an 8-2 victory over the Tigers.
“It was a perfect day for BGC Winnipeg to watch the Winnipeg ICE in an 8-2 win over the Medicine Hat Tigers. We are so grateful for the 100 tickets donated by 24-7 Intouch. The children, youth and families had a blast watching the game and engaged in numerous family-friendly activities. BGC Winnipeg is looking forward to building this partnership with the Winnipeg ICE.” said Ron Brown, President and CEO of BGC Winnipeg.
After the game, Emma, Amenze, Amina and Precious, youth volunteers running the BGC Winnipeg booth, headed directly to Smitty’s with Heather Black, Director of Community Engagement for BGC Winnipeg. The girls couldn’t wait to enjoy a delicious free pancake dinner after the ICE’s 8-2 victory!
